I will be exhibiting in my first group exhibition in East London this August!

Working in the 30x30cm constraint felt like a gift and a challenge. A gift in a sense I can concentrate on a small area. A challenge because it’s a complex idea that takes time to get down on canvas from my mind. How do I map out the angles and the figures? But we love a challenge, that’s how we grow.

The measurements shaped the piece perfectly. It looks like an anatomical drawing at first but then your eye is drawn in further.

Let me walk you through the piece. This is a metaphysical self portrait. It features a my face and head but cut into half. We are not looking at the physical brain and anatomy, which is what you would think at first glance, but we are looking at my mind in layers. The white figures represent faint ideas housed in various apartments not yet formed. One idea has escaped however and has formed a life of her own. It represents the ideas that find their own way out despite my mind being in a fog or a daze from burnout. That is Layers of Me.
